The roads will be closed from 3.00am on the 29 March, some will be closed entirely while others will have some access but no parking. The roads of major concern for parents and your staff include Albert St between Guy and Palmerin Streets, these will be totally closed. The roads that front Warwick State High School, Palmerin, Victoria and Guy Street will have limited access and definitely no parking facing the school.
Translink has had conversations with the bus companies and Council regarding the school buses on the morning. Given that the QBR does not go through the area until 9.30am; all school buses will be able to operate normally on the morning. The traffic controllers and SES have been given instructions to allow school buses to pass through road blocks; this does not include private passenger vehicles. For parents who want to do school drop-off they will need to park outside the road closures and walk their students to the gate.
The Council is running a substantial community event in Leslie Park from 8.00am -10.00am. For those schools that do not have the QBR, it provides them a chance to come to participate in the celebration. This means that there will be extra pedestrian and vehicular traffic trying to navigate the road closures in the area. Your school community will need to be aware of the disruption.
This will be disruptive but it is the QBR and it is only for one day. Our community is very lucky to be getting the QBR and we are trying to make the best of it.
